WORKSHOP / Deep Movement Consciousness
The workshop is more of a creativity class than a dance class. Rather than teaching form, the class focuses on expanding one’s artistic self-awareness. The class begins with exploring qualities such as rebound, flow, fractions, and shaking to reach a state beyond self-judgment and self-limitations. Here we will work within the gap between power and fragility. After waking up the body and mind, we will focus on isolations and polyrhythmic exercises to root back our focus. We move with the intention of never going back, developing one’s fearlessness and ability to trust each instant’s potential to lead somewhere. We give ourselves the necessary time to tune into our body’s intuitive intellito trustgence to solve movement paradoxes that emerge during the research process. We will facilitate each other’s exploration by working in pairs and in groups, as well as individually.
These simple open structures are simultaneously technical tools and tools for composition. We encourage the dancer to playfully explore their inner workings and personal language that result both, from everyday lived experience and learned movement patterns. By opening up creative curiosity, we enhance our movement fluency. In turn, we will develop strategies to explore the space between continuity and disruption of movement ideas by naming patterns for those interested in building choreography.
PROGRAM AND INFO
The workshop with Peter Jasko starts from 19th to 23th August 2024 (5 hours a day: from 10.00 to 16.30 with a lunch break of an hour and a half).
At the end of the workshop, during the Perse Visioni Festival (21-22-23 August), there will be a final performance on 23th August 2024.
HOUSING
If you are coming from out of the region, please contact us as soon as you can. We can work with you and our local networks to find lodging according to your needs and budget. Because summertime demand for rooms is high, plan to consider anywhere from 40 to 60 euros per night, or approximately 240 to 360 euros for the duration of the entire workshop. Contacting us sooner is always better in finding better rates. Shared housing is also a strategy to reduce housing expense, so please let us know if you are interested.
FOOD
Participants will be responsible for their own food. You can have lunch near the auditorium, where you can find bars, bakeries and restaurants. Each day, during a break you can bring your own snack.
GETTING TO POLIGNANO A MARE
The nearest airport is BARI AIRPORT (BA) or Brindisi (BR). There is a Polignano a Mare
train station with service to Bari.
CHOREOGRAPHER/ TEACHER
PETER JASKO
(SLO)
PETER JASKO (SLO)
In 2001, Peter graduated from the J.L. Bella Conservatory of dance, Banska Bystrica, Slovakia.
He continued his higher education at the University of Music and Dramatic Arts in Bratislava, SK, for a year before entering the international school of dance P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels, BE, (2002), under the artistic direction of Anna Teresa de Keersmaeker. He has been involved in the dance community in different parts of the world as a performer, choreographer and teacher for over 20 years. His professional experience includes dancing/collaborating/choreographing with/for international artists and companies such as Company Roberto Olivan from Spain, the Belgian Eastman Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Circus Eloize, Bill Coleman, Petr Forman, Roberto Magro, Peter James, EDCM, Concordia University and many more. Since 2001, he has also collaborated with David Zambrano as both a performer and as assistant in his classes and workshops.
In 2006, Peter cofounded Les Slovaks Dance Collective and launched their first creation: Opening Night. This experience (a creative process that lasted one year) laid the cornerstone for a collective way of working and democratic decision-making. LS began to develop common skills: composing while performing, finding a gestural language, establishing the rules for relating to each other and to the public while performing, and using dance, music and singing. Extensive touring ensued. In 2009 Peter Jasko created and danced Solo2009. In 2014 he began to collaborate and perform with Montreal dancer Clara Furey. Her approach fosters dialogue between the different kinds of mediums that make a living art work, inviting them to interact in a horizontal hierarchy. The same year Peter Jasko created a performance for 300 seniors as a part of cultural city of Europe, Pilsen 2015. His latest collaborations are linked to the names such as Bill Colemean, Lucy M.May, Mohamadreza Akrami, Peter James, Clara Furey, Luka and Atom Jasko (his children). For the past 20 years, he has taught in about forty-six countries around the world. Since 2023 Peter Jasko became TransFormation Programming Associate for the workshop dance festival in Montreal, QC, Canada. The same year Peter, started and finishing his studies at IKRA school of massage therapy in Montreal.
